Frankie Fathers 駐村成果展 — 鵝頸頭用的圓錐形帽箍

Frankie Fathers Residency Exhibition — Wigwam For A Goose's Bridle

Frankie Fathers’ installation Wigwam for a Goose’s Bridle explores the emotional complexities of caregiving. Inspired by caring for her father Michael, who has Alzheimer’s disease, it reflects his obsession with stacking twigs and her guilt at being overseas. Using found wood to rebuild his woodpile, she expresses frustration and helplessness. During her residency, she collaborated with Kaohsiung carers to create self-care blanket doors, symbolizing her father’s fading mind. Donated clothing and her father’s ties were knotted into words expressing conflicted feelings. The interactive work evolves daily, mirroring Alzheimer’s unpredictability.

The exhibition title Wigwam for a Goose’s Bridle is an old-fashioned New Zealand phrase that means nonsense or something absurd. The artist’s father, who is from New Zealand, would often say this phrase to her when she asked him endless questions as a child.
